Well we actually
reside in what is known as Santa Claus's town, that's right the North Pole.
Located approximately 12 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska. This
is the country where it is light all night during the summer months (all
3 of them) and dark all day in the winter months. It takes a little
getting used to but the summers are worth every bit of the wait.
It actually all started way
back in 1961, about 10 minutes after I was born. Racing fever set
in. As a young tyke at about 5 or 6 years old I learned my father
was as pretty fair racer himself prior to my arrival in the world.
He made the mistake of giving me an opportunity of looking through some
of his racing albums, ha!, that was it I was destined to be a racer, someday,
somehow. Well I didn't get an early start but I finally started racing
in the Sportsman's Class back in 1988, won Rookie of the Year. I
moved to my dream class courtousy of my beloved wife, entertaining
our Rookie Year in Sprints for the 1996. We are members with one
of the few Non Profit Racing Associations left on the planet (I think),
the Greater Fairbanks Racing Association.
We'll race Memorial
Day through Labor Day each season, racing for local points at the Robert
Mitchell Memorial Raceway. A small 3/8's mile Dirt (of course) Oval
located just outside of Fairbanks. Each Saturday we run Sprints,
Sportsman's, B-Stocks and Mini Stocks, with usually 3 Demolition Derbies
throughout the year just for good measure.
In addition to our local
points races we also have the Alaskan State Shoot-out annually. All
3 dirt tracks participate, Fairbanks, Capital Speedway in Willow, Alaska,
a 3/8's mile, and the Twin Cities Speedway located in Kenai, Alaska, a
big 1/2 mile. The State Shoot-out consists of 3 double weekends,
one at each track with an individual points system excluded from our local
events. Believe me DIRT TRACKING in the GREAT
WHITE NORTH is as good as you'll find anywhere.
Well, we are glad you stopped
by, hope to see you again sometime. If your ever in our neck of the
world give us a shout, come on out to the races. Take care and maybe
will cross paths, hope you enjoy the rest of our site. Tips and Comments
are always welcome.
